What does switching stock brokers actually cost?
Moving your shares to another demat account is not free, but the fees are usually small and one off. This works out the indicative cost to move, then how long the lower running cost takes to earn it back. Every number is an estimate you can edit, not a bill and not advice.
How this is worked out
- Switch cost = transfer charge per scrip times holdings, plus a prorated slice of the current broker's yearly AMC.
- Monthly saving = the AMC difference spread over 12 months, plus the brokerage difference on your typical trade times how often you trade.
- Breakeven months = switch cost divided by the monthly saving.
This is a cost estimate, never a nudge to switch. We do not recommend any stock broker.
Every figure here is indicative and editable. Real transfer fees, closure charges and AMC terms vary by broker and depository, so check your broker's current schedule before acting. Brokerage differences come from the same in-house cost engine and published rates used across the site, benchmarked 13 Jul 2026. Costs alone do not capture app quality, tools, support or your own reasons for moving.
